What's Michiko Monogatari all about? Firstly Michiko Monogatari means “the tale of Michiko.”
This online publication can best be described as a graphic novel.

Michiko is of course the main character; a swordswoman that due to certain circumstances is wandering the world. It is through Michiko and the other characters that we get to explore the world of Maruihara (means “round field”).The story begins on October 1st, the (human)Year 4053. The story line is now in the summer (July) of 4055.

Maruihara is not like the world that we come from. While it may have some of the same physical properties as our Earth, the species (and world) of Maruihara is markedly different. Humans are attuned to the spiritual realm of their world (leading to strange incidents of super-human power among humans)while struggling to understand their reason for being. The one thing that these humans share with us is mortality. The demons and dragons that inhabit Maruihara offer varied viewpoints on living in Maruihara and often times, these beliefs and ideals of these dominant species can clash in ugly ways.

There are five main realms that exist in Maruihara

Biosphere:All lower life forms such as (plants, animals, rivers, etc).

Humans: A struggling species on Maruihara that is trying to gain dominance over the land (and each other in some cases).

Demons:Shape-shifters that are most powerful when in their non-human forms. They are nomads by nature and tend to live in small groups scattered across Maruihara. There are two classes of demons; the Velox and the Krugeri. They usually stay in a human-like form to conserve energy.

Dragons:Serpentine like creatures that have a massive amount of power contained within their bodies that manifest in 4 elemental forms(lightning, fire, water & wind). It is these four elements that define the 4 dragon clans. The dragons live in floating cities called fortresses. They usually stay in a human-like form to conserve energy.

Charalampos: This is essentially the spiritual realm. It has been called everything from a place of damnation, a place of salvation, or simply an unknowning void. It is general notion among demons, dragons and humans that Charalampos can only be communicated with through death.
